What Is The Usage Of An Industrial Oxygen Monitor?

Usually, oxygen monitors are used for two purposes - either for industrial oxygen sensors or for monitoring biological processes. Both these aspects require oxygen sensors to monitor oxygen levels and provide feedback. This helps the operating person control the level of oxygen.

An industrial oxygen monitor can measure anything from 0 parts per billion oxygen molecules by volume to 100% pure oxygen for industrial purposes. These are basically used for three primary reasons, as follows:

These oxygen sensors are used for monitoring combustion and are being used in modern cars. Here, their function is quite simple - monitoring the amount of oxygen exhausted and reporting the data to the car monitor.

You can detect whether the fuel mixture is rich or low in oxygen level. This information can be used to adjust the fuel mixture and reduces exhaust fumes. 

In power plants and furnaces, oxygen monitors are used. Here they monitor smokestacks. It is very much important to monitor the combustion level in industries. Because if there is not enough oxygen, it can lead to the production of a hazardous gas called carbon monoxide. 

Measuring Trace Oxygen

A trace oxygen sensor is applicable when measuring oxygen level at the parts per million. In the case of industries that are sensitive to the presence of oxygen, such as welding stainless steel, these are used. 

Moreover, these machines are also used in the modified atmosphere packaging process. This includes food, pharmaceuticals and drinks. Removing the oxygen from the packaging ensures to increase in the shell- life.

Measuring 100% Oxygen

100% oxygen is used in pressurized tanks, medical industry, underwater or aviation breathing gas, welding metal, and liquid propellant for the rockets. Even in the laboratory, 100% oxygen works as a bleaching agent. 

This oxygen is used for creating calibration gas which is for the use for testing other sensors. Thus, oxygen sensors play a crucial role in detecting the 100% oxygen presence.
