How Are Transport Carts Used Across Different Laboratories?

Labs with much difficult-to-move equipment may find that a mobile work stand cart is preferable. These have larger wheels and can be manoeuvred through doorways easier than other types of carts.

Others might prefer push trolleys because they can fit into smaller spaces or move more items at once more easily with friction casters on the corners as opposed to traditional tires. However, these transport carts can greatly help any lab or industry move around without significant effort. Take a look at different ways in which these laboratory transport carts are used:

Transporting and Storing Chemicals

In any lab, transport carts for chemicals are a great way to move around these items, especially if they're heavy. The wheels will help you move them easily without lifting and carrying them carefully. Workbench carts can also be used as storage solutions in a laboratory because they have plenty of room on top where you can keep different tools and equipment like pipettes, worksheets or test tubes and flasks.

Moving Equipment between Rooms

Laboratory Transport Carts that roll are very useful in moving equipment from one lab area to another. This becomes vital, especially if they're larger pieces of machinery that would not be easy to move by hand. Some labs have even managed to create mobile carts for moving test tubes, and flasks between different areas of the lab since these are very easy to store, move around and use.

Improving Work Efficiency

Most people use carts to help transport equipment from one place to another, but they can be more useful. For example, some equipment may be hard to install or operate alone. A cart made of solid wood can also help with this since these are quite heavy, making them easy enough for an average person to move around easily without too much effort.

There are also dangers associated with lab transport carts since these are often mobile and could lead to falling objects and spills. As such, you must always ensure you're safely handling items so they don't fall out of the cart, cause accidents, or become damaged from accidentally bumping into other things.

Types Οf Transport Carts That Can Be Used In Laboratories

Transportation carts or goods carts are becoming more common in industrial laboratories. These laboratories need a ton of supplies regularly and moving a huge amount of supplies can become a daunting task for humans. So, these carriers are used to move things efficiently and faster. There are different types of laboratory transport carts that can be used in a laboratory.

Some of the most used carts are:

Hand Trucks- These are off of the most common and most used carts. Hand trucks are affordable and easily available. It is basically a cart with one pair of wheels and operated manually, this cart has a toe plate to store the equipment of goods and a long frame supports the weight of the goods. This cart is pulled backward during transportation. Hand trucks are often modified to move barrels of liquids or jars with safety. Some carts also have a latch to keep the goods secured in places during transportation.

Pallet trucks-   Pallet trucks or jacks are used if a laboratory needs to move palletized loads from one place to another. It comes with a parallel platform that lifts things and moves things. These carts can also be used to unload a larger supply. It is more common in pharmaceutical labs which need to send many batches of goods per day.  It has a fork under a pallet. The cart driver lifts a hydraulic jack to move the platform upwards to downwards, there are manual pallet trucks, gas-powered trucks, and electric jacks.

Go carts- Go carts are small versions of a four-wheel car. These carts are automatic and can carry a lot of loads. Go Laboratory Carts carts can be electric, gas-powered. The go-carts often have a load area where materials are stored for transportation.  But, they do not have any suspension.

A-Frame trucks- It is another cart that is used to transport panelled goods. These have flatbed trucks. The trucks have some vertical dividers. The panels of products are liquid in between the panels. Some carts have a larger load capacity.

Examples of what these carts can hold include:

  • Floor models that have buckets on wheels for picking up and carrying items, such as boxes, lab test kits, and other supplies that you need to move.  These Laboratory transport carts are usually available at Global Lab Supply in sizes as 60, 80, 100, or 120 gallons.
  • Trays with wells that slide along rails to give you extra shelving space for inventory. The wells are similar to the bottom of a 19-gallon trash can.  Ever glide tray carts, for example, have 6 wells that slide along rails.
  • Shelves that keep your supplies off the floor and handy so you can make them more accessible when needed. These shelves are a great way to store large volumes of items like small vials, microtubes, and test tubes.
  • In-floor models with rolling casters so they can be moved around your facility easily to wherever they are needed.
  • Heavy-duty over-the-shoulder models that you can lift with ease and maneuver around tight corners and upstairs or ramps in the facility.

Features to look for when purchasing a cart for the lab

  • Ships and tracks that provide adequate strength for the loads.
  • Size and weight capacity ratings when comparing different models so you can find one that can hold all your supplies.
  • Good maneuverability so you don't have to worry about it tipping over or getting stuck in a spot where you don't want it.
  • A strong base is important because these carts tend to be quite heavy.  If the base is too light, it will not be able to keep up with your load while rolling along.
